VAT Calculator
Add or remove VAT from any amount. UK standard (20%), reduced (5%), zero rate or custom. Full net/VAT/gross breakdown.
How to use
Add or remove VAT
"Add VAT" starts from a net (ex-VAT) amount and calculates the gross price. "Remove VAT" starts from a gross (inc-VAT) price and works out the net amount and VAT portion. Use standard (20%), reduced (5%) or any custom rate.
Common uses
When quoting clients, add 20% VAT to your net fee. When checking a supplier invoice, remove VAT to see the true cost. The breakdown shows net, VAT amount and gross for clear record-keeping and accounting.
UK standard VAT is 20% (since 2011). The 'add VAT' multiplier is 1.20; the 'remove VAT' divisor is 1.20, which is why dividing by 0.80 doesn't work — the inclusive price is 120%, so VAT is 1/6 of the inclusive total, not 20% of it.
